It was a day of traveling today as we left Liguria and headed back to Switzerland for the final legs of our trip. Catching the trains from Riomaggiore to La Spezia and from there to Pisa Centrale were painless enough but since our flight out of Pisa Airport wasn’t until half past 5, we thought it a good idea to have lunch close to a legendary Italian landmark that’s been seen in film, print, refrigerator magnets, and everything else you can imagine.
After a hearty, really delicious lunch of pasta carbonara, ravioli, and roast beef at la Taverna di Emma, it was good to walk off the meal with a quick dash to the famous Leaning Tower of Pisa complex, which was just as beautiful, crowded, and insane as the last time we were here 7 years ago. The church tower was clad in scaffolding but everything else was as resplendent as it could be, and of course the indescribably funny cliche poses people were making pretending to prop up the world-famous tower were everywhere. Unfortunately we’d only enough time for a few posterity shots before we had to move on and leave for the airport. As with the last time in Italy it’s been an unforgettable, albeit short, trip that will fill me with pleasant memories for a long time. Arrivederci and until the next, hopefully colder, time.
