Even after 8 years together I’m still pleasantly surprised.

My usual Saturday morning routine of camping on the living room couch, simultaneously surfing online and catching up on pop TV while the laundry runs in the background was thwarted by Teko proclaiming we take a trip somewhere — and then asking if that hotel we stayed in 5 years ago in Trier, Germany was available for tonight! Spontaneity indeed is the spice of life. Not one to argue – though better judgment would have been to stay put instead – I quickly checked and told him the affirmative. We booked it that minute and packed a small bag before we were out the door 15 minutes later. Luckily the laundry was already on dry mode – coming home to a bunch of damp clothing after a mini-break would have been a downer.

The last time we were here was in 2012 during the Christmas season so I had a lot of nice memories rush back as we walked through and around town, reminiscing about our life back then and comparing it to where we are now. We’ve come a long way in 5 years but there’s still a lot of work left to keep us busy. Let’s see how it goes in another half decade, Trier.
