The Gendarmenmarkt is probably the best known among Berlin’s Christmas markets and luckily or not is different from the one that was attacked a few days ago by Anis Asmri who’s now the most wanted man in the country. The zauber in the sign means magic, which I have to say is somewhat true – there was something special indeed in that small patch of square between two churches, something that thankfully lingers on despite attacks against what it represents. It’s true that this city has gone through worse – I’ve seen photos and heard stories from Teko about the state of the city after WW2 so I know they’ll stay strong after this. Christmas in Berlin will stay merry and bright.
