It’s an absolute hole in the wall with barely any eating space and burgers served on cheap wooden planks but the totally English-speaking clientele seemed to be happy capping off their meals with big smiles and thanks. I used to work in a building just a couple of blocks away and wondered about this place that supposedly had some of the best burgers in Amsterdam. After discovering Cannibale Royale, which immediately became my go-to place for burgers, and giving in to the reality of overpriced but quality burgers in this part of the world, I was interested in finding out more about Lombardo’s if only to add to my limited dining options. The Dutch beef burger with goat cheese and sauteed mushrooms was deliciously juicy, and notwithstanding the wafting smell from the garbage truck collecting refuse just outside their door, I would say they may have hit the spot with the creations from their kitchen. If I ever find myself in the neighborhood again it’s a safe bet I might just drop by.
