With its obvious similarities with St Basil’s Cathedral, the iconic Moscow church on Red Square, this one in St Petersburg was just as impressive on the outside. Once we did get in it was a mosaic explosion inside. Every space was covered with depictions of Christ, his followers, and saints of all ages. It was a sight to behold and unimaginable how much work went into creating such grandeur – one small piece of tile at a time.
I’m always worried about Lost In Translation moments but interactions with locals have been fine so far and buying tickets to this and other attractions has been uneventful. I’m still worried I might get shouted at in Russian so there’s still time for that to happen. Let’s see how it goes.
