The Hermitage is one of the most daunting, exhausting, and largest museums I’ve been lucky enough to see and check off the list. After about 4 hours of wandering and absorbing as much as I could, I felt it still wasn’t enough and I’m sure justifiably so. There was so much to take in and admire – the Canova sculptures for one was a section that stood out not only for its unbelievably high aesthetic but also for the sheer number that were there. I also hadn’t seen so many Rembrandts in one place outside of the Rijks in Amsterdam. Amazing state rooms one after another were just an embarrassment of riches that few countries can make reality but there they were in full force. If St Petersburg had to have only one attraction, they are more than lucky to have grandeur and substance along the level of The Hermitage.
