Fryysarinranta Ravintola

Restaurants here have some of the longest names I’ve seen, which is a wonder in touristy towns that surely have a lot of non-Finnish clientele. And if there’s one thing that I can take away from all the eating out and window shopping we’ve done is that the service industry is very, very good. Friendly, helpful, and generally smart. It’s good to live in a developed country indeed.

For lunch in Porvoo, we played it by ear and lucked out on a scenic, riverside restaurant we chanced on during our walk. As an added bonus it turned out to be a Finnish restaurant, which meant I could finally, finally try some local dishes. There was the salmon of course and the herring but my main mission was a little more on the gamey side. Rudolph was on the menu and it was about time. The meal turned out to be a lazy, languorous one in only the best way, and quite satisfying at that.
