There’s a Banksy exhibit showing his original works in Beurs van Berlage right now that proved to be rather interesting. As modern art goes it reminded me of Andy Warhol – and why couldn’t I with the Marilyn Monroe treatment of Kate Moss, someone who by the way I still can’t fathom why she is so famously in-demand. The art was reachable though they seem to be victims of their own success. Rather than be messages of deep-seated discontent and shouts of metaphorical anti-consumerism, they came across as collection-worthy pieces from someone with a calculated vehicle for self-promotion. Banksy may or may not be real but given the ticket prices for his exhibit, may as well be laughing and spray painting all the way to the bank.
