I’d passed it often enough and read much about it that it was for the longest time in my list of restaurants in my to-do list. Not too promising on the name alone, the Five Flies made an impression on me after finding out the building it’s in was built in 1627(!) and the menu prices weren’t exactly that affordable – and this being Amsterdam, restaurant prices are an entire universe from the rest of the world all together. I rarely find myself eating out in the center for many reasons so I was really glad the stars aligned when we tried finding a place for dinner – 7p.m. on a Saturday night for a party of 5!

I didn’t get to see the Rembrandt they had hanging in one of the dining rooms so a return visit will have to do. Maybe in another five years.
