When I was still living in DC, it never occurred to me to travel to other parts of the States, something I’ve come to regret now that I’m living in Europe. Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, World’s largest ball of twine – there was just no strong attraction for all of it. I’d heard a lot of good things about the Pacific Northwest but it wasn’t enough to get me on a plane across three time zones to see it for myself. Incidentally and as luck would gave it, I now find myself in a city that is both sleepless, and doesn’t know what to do with those tossed salads and scrambled eggs. I haven’t made a dent in my tourist duties – it is a work trip after all – but have discovered the food scene. Greek food at Lola, the lasagna at Crow, chicken fried steak at 5 Spot, and seafood gumbo at Toulouse. Suffice it to say my lunches and dinners have been quite good these past few days, and my waistline has been none the better for it. Still have a couple of days left here though so, weather permitting, I’ll be able to leave with a modicum of site seeing success.
