I finally got to see one of Vienna’s hundreds of palaces. In what could be our only chance to see the Belvedere, despite staying up late last night we got up early enough to grab a quick breakfast and get ourselves to our first destination of the day.
Thankfully, it was only three tram stops away – gotta love the convenience – and since we timed ourselves to be there at opening time, we were able to quickly get tickets to see both the upper and lower palaces. Yes, there are two in the same place. I have to say, the prices here, food, museum tickets, etc, put Amsterdam prices to absolute shame. The tickets for this one were 20 euros a pop and they weren’t even the cheapest on the list. Incredible. I did finally get to see the famous Klimt painting, The Kiss, and was impressed by the Versailles-like level of the imperial estate. For a first look at Viennese palaces, the Belvedere is definitely enough for a lifetime.
