It was gezellig in the truest sense of the word.
Since we were shopping in the vicinity of Roermond, right by the border with Germany, it didn’t take a lot of effort to search out a German town where we could have a leisurely lunch. Retracing his biking route from almost two decades ago, my partner sought out the small town of Brüggen, which turned out to be one hell of a gezellige town if ever there was one. The babbling brook framed by an old-fashioned water wheel and a castle-tower was as fairy tale as it gets, it reminded me of a Disney movie where Belle could come out singing at any time. It’s places like these that I imagined Europe would be and this town didn’t disappoint.
