Thank goodness they were open.
A birthday emergency came to light last Friday when I was supposed to go to a double birthday party but still with no gifts in hand. While it may have lacked some imagination, luckily I had time left after work to drop by my now local go-to place for cakes, and not the crappy kind that come from a grocery store.
I’m so glad I’ve come a long way from my Goldilocks and Red Ribbon days in the Philippines – both Holtkamp and Patisserie Kuyt are miles ahead even with the stores I used to see in Washington DC. Even if Amsterdam feels like a small town too often for comfort, at least there are places like these that remind me just how better off I am.
