The Rijksmuseum was looking in top form several days ago, and even if I’ve lived here over three years now, I’m glad I can still appreciate what a treasure it is. The Iamsterdam sign was as busy as ever with tourists climbing and squeezing all over the place, and the manicured park in the museum grounds literally a calm oasis that, apart from the kids playing touch and go with the dancing fountain, was almost free from the tourist mayhem just outside its gates. After watching The Fault In Our Stars, I even found myself tracing the movie character’s steps as they walked from where we were to the glassed entrance of the museum, and coincidentally discovered a musician playing by the exact spot as in the film. That’s the Hollywood effect for you.
