Yet another thing that made me smile – another memory from my third world existence unleashed. Whenever electricity ran out at night in the Philippines, or when all-night mahjong sessions went on, one of the few things that drove away endless, blood-sucking mosquitos were incense coils, known locally as katòl. It was cheap, smelled a bit funky, but it seemed to do the job. What should I see when aimlessly wandering around my favorite store but the international version, all nicely-wrapped and very upmarket. It cost maybe 20 times what we used to pay for it, but hey, citronella can’t be cheap, right. At least I know where to go when I schedule that next mah-jong session.
Ang sosyal. Citronella Spiral. Sabi na nga ba, it's all in the packaging 🙂
