On a visit to far-away Hellevoetsluis to see Teko’s mother, the idea for all three of us to go grab a bite to eat in nearby Rockanje town came up. Thinking that we were going to a beachside restaurant for some local apple pie, it turned out to be something else. Thankfully, the place turned out to be much more than I expected – certainly a nice way to start the weekend.
We still got our apple pie and, wonderfully, more than I bargained for. With all the wood interiors and hanging deer horns, I thought for a moment that I was transported back to Iceland, in a warm, quaint lodge in the middle of nowhere. Strangely though, I couldn’t finish my slice of pie even if I’d had nothing to eat all day, but even more strangely, was able to finish off most of my fairly large cheeseburger with only a little bit of help from Teko. Hope this not-finishing-everything-on-my-plate thing doesn’t become a habit.
