DÜSSELDORF CHRISTMAS MARKET 2013

The first Christmas market I’d ever been to in Germany was in Trier over two years ago. It was all that I expected and more.

I’d never been to Dusseldorf but I’d heard of it, of course. It was one of those cities with such an enigmatic name that it belonged in James Bond and Jason Bourne films. It sounded so typically European. Well, after all these years, and countless James Bond films, I’ve finally made it. Wish it were sunnier though.

Sad to say, the Dusseldorf Christmas market paled in comparison with the one in Trier, which is surprising given how bigger the city is and by extension, richer. I think the larger crowds may have lessened that yuletide feeling a bit. Nonetheless, it was a nice day trip from Amsterdam, probably one of the longest we’ve taken so far. Here’s hoping there are more of these to come.
