On The Road Again | Florida

Unexpected luxuries are the best.

When we got to the car rental office in Florida, it became apparent that the Euro amount charged us for the weekly cost on our midsize (which we thought was already a steal) when converted to U.S. dollars, and with a special promotion, actually got us into the premium SUV category. How often does my poor ass get to sit in a $45,000.00 luxury SUV? Nearly never.
For an entire week we drove around Central and Southern Florida in one of the most comfortable thing-on-wheels I’d ever been in. Thank you for making me feel like a millionaire, Alamo!
And then there was how we (ab)used the car.
The luxury of joyriding 1200 miles is insanely expensive in Europe, to the point where it’s close to impossible – seeing as gas is the equivalent of $9.00 per gallon over here it’s easy to see why. And yet even though the cost in the States has more than tripled – I still remember not too long ago when gas was only 99 cents – the car is still king. I have a strong feeling road trips like these will soon be non-existent in my lifetime, and despite my desire to be green, I’d be lying if I didn’t say I enjoyed it a lot. It’ll definitely be a while before I get to do this again.
After getting reacquainted with some of my culinary favorites, I finally got to step back into a real American mall where I got to see some old friends, Crate & Barrel, William Sonoma and Pottery Barn, among others. This is what a mall looks like, Netherlands.
