Happy Birthday, Tintin!

My favorite comic book character is a young 84, and he doesn’t look it. He may as well be the most famous Belgian in pop culture…not counting Jean-Claude van Damme.

First learned about his adventures in high school and got a copy of nearly all his books (limited as it was, the local National Bookstore was my only source). Sadly I didn’t take any of them along with me when I moved to the States, ended up giving them to a trusted friend who I think threw them away. Sigh.
But then what should I see on my first trip to Brussels? None other than an actual Tintin store! I was like a kid in a candy store — who didn’t buy any candy. Unfortunately, all the books were in French.
It’s safe to say my move to Europe was somewhat influenced by his adventures, and for that I am truly grateful. Thank you for showing me your colorful, exciting world, Tintin.
