Saturday night dinner was at the Golden Yawner, or De Vergulde Gaper, a typical, no-nonsense restaurant in the atmospheric Jordaan district.
The building used to be a pharmacy which explains the posters on the wall and the yawning head sculptures – only old pharmacies had those hanging outside their buildings. Service was expectedly Dutch, i.e. all business and no warmth. Good thing we had a large, quiet corner of the restaurant all to ourselves.
The wagyu burger was pretty good for Dutch standards but I’ve had better. Good to always try something once though. In this case, will most likely go elsewhere in the Jordaan for my next meal.
